The Aftermath; Dealing with a Hangover

We've all been there, the severity of your hangover mostly equals how awesome the party was you visited with your friends. Can't remember anything at all? Even better! Yes, hangovers are a part of student life but when you have class the next day at 9am you're kicking yourself for having that last shot of tequila.
However cool you may think it is to sit in a brightly lit room with sunglasses on, sipping a bottle of water because you're not able to keep any solid foods down, your not-so-hungover friends will torture you.

Here are 5 tips on what to eat or drink for hangovers.

Water - This is probably the most important tip we can ever give you. The cause of that brain-splitting headache is dehydration! Drink a couple of glasses of water before going to bed to rehydrate and when you wake up you will feel the difference immediately.

Juice - Particularly juices that contain high levels of Vitamin C, for example Orange Juice. Vitamin C will increase the speed in which your body metabolizes the alcohol. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that when you drink enough Screwdrivers or Tequila Sunrise's you won't have a hangover.

Lime - Alcoholic drinks deplete our body's sugar level. Limes are good stabilizers and they help your body to regain those depleted sugars.

Tomato Juice - Tomato juice contains fructose which is a type of sugar that helps your body to more easily metabolize the alcohol you consumed. (Again, don't make it a Bloody Mary)

Bananas - Magnesium and potassium are important electrolytes in your body that are depleted during drinking. Bananas are rich in potassium and high in magnesium, a natural antacid, and are rich in vitamin B6. Thus, eating bananas helps your body to regain lost potassium, relaxes your blood vessels, reduces headache and nausea, and helps reduce hangover symptoms. This makes bananas a true hangover solution.

Most importantly;
This wouldn't be our recommended way of sleeping
Give yourself a break! You probably didn't get much sleep last night and during the sleep that you did manage to sneak in your body was busy processing all that poison you sucked down. If you have class, follow those food and drink tips and then go home and back to bed. Get that rest your body is craving and when you're fully rested, freshen up with a quick hot or cold shower to feel somewhat alive again.
